I really don't know how, but somehow I have ended up on the webpage of Micro Miniatures, who make the bits for ice-cream van sound systems.
Just in case anyone is interested in fitting such a system to their car (it would REALLY wind up the parents and children in your area) they don't appear to be that expensive.
They also have links to companies that build icecream vans. I'm not sure they would offer great mpg, but at least you would always have ice-cream to hand. Actually, that really isn't that appealing. What do female American sit-com characters see in it?
