I say with an open door policy to migration why would these multi million pound businesses pay more. Pure greed yet the socialist on this forum will deny this has nothing to do with an endless supply of workers from poorer country's willing to work for such poor money.....

They meet minimum wage - that's set by the government.

The rest is up to companies to pay whever over that allowance they want. Has been in place for decades. What's your issue?

Years back I was on a contract in Tower hamlets.
Mixture of English and Bangladesh familys mainly and a sprinkle of others. Some of these people living at the top of Cable Street lived in poverty. Yet the city of London was yards away where flash Larry's were earning a fortune. Would they be earning this big money if they didn't have cleaners cleaning their lavish offices. Cleaners on minimum wage.. If this money was evenly spread out so that the cleaners earned twice the minimum wage. This not even make a dent in their big bonuses.

If that cleaner earned enough to buy little Johnny his preferred trainers and decent clothes and a good diet at meal times. Maybe there would not be as much crime.. Maybe... I understand Boris and his politics. I can never get my head around Jeremy Corbin and his slant on socialism.

Can anyone explain..

That's neo liberal economic policy and capitalism that Thatcher brought in but sure blame Corbyn and Labour.

How did you become a plumber - isn't there a competence test?

I once heard a story about a top manager in a hospital who always said goodnight to every cleaner.
When asked why/how he remembered everyone's name his reply was akin to;

We all work in a big organisation and everyone is a cog in that machine. Abuse one of those cogs or take them away and the machine doesn't function effectively. Without these ladies cleaning my operating theatres/clinic rooms etc my staff can't do their job. Everyone is vital to the smooth running and everyone should be treated equally.

Sadly not everyone is paid what they are really worth and some are paid more than they are worth. That is the problem.

So someone advertises a rate that they are willing to pay someone and you are free to accept or reject that rate?
