I saw a couple of these birds at the bottom of my garden a few weeks back

(not a pic taken by me)

I often get these in the garden:

goldfinch -quite common these days (they like niger seed or sunflower hearts)

Both cracking looking birds

that is probably an average figure including fledglings - robins that get past the first few months will last 5 to 10 years the same as many other small birds

Fair enough.

From the RSPB

"
How long do robins live?
A robin’s lifespan is just 13 months on average due to high mortality among robins in their first year. Once they’ve passed that barrier, they stand a much better chance of surviving for quite a while – the record currently stands at 19 years."

There we have it.

would never have guessed 19 years, that is one old Robin

I do know that even though Robin's look nice and lovely, the male Robin will kill other male robins to take over their territory.
