In my rented property I had the fuse board re-installed a couple of years ago and an EICR was issued as satisfactory. I'm not a sparky myself, nor exactly familiar with the whole process, so I trusted the guy.
Now, another electrician comes along that replaced a wall socket, looked around, and said "I wonder how he ever issued a satisfactory EICR: the board isn't labeled correctly, there are over and under-sized breakers for the wired circuits and he could not certify circuits that are not compliant to BS-7671". He recommends that I run another EICR for £X + VAT.
Who do I believe and any suggestions as to what I should do? He might be trying to pull a trick on me and charge me money to redo the whole thing, or he might be right. I can always get a third electrician in to check! (but that'll cost me money). I mean, if something were to happen, the first electrician would be liable for issuing a EICR, however do I want to wait for something to happen?
