Does anyone know how to free a three pin plug which has stuck in the socket? There are no screws visible on the front of the socket to let me remove it from the wall.

Don't know how to post picture !! It's a double socket, black with a stainless steel border. I can't smash it - my kitchen is BEAUTIFUL !

Probably a flat style sith separate clip on cover plate, or a converter socket where the screws are in the centre of the plug holes.

Either way, if the plug is jammed in (probably welded in), both the socket and plug will need to be replaced.

I've had another look at the socket, and feel you must be right. Will just have to get it replaced ! The annoying thing is that the plug will come halfway out, but no further - GRRR! Many thanks, anyway.

It might be possible to drill round the faceplate to the point where the socket detaches from the bracket holding it to the backbox with inaccessible screws. The plug+socket can then be removed, the faceplate then removed, and what's left unscrewed.

Flameport - I know you didn't mean smash up the kitchen ! I'd be afraid that I'd break some tiles. The plug is quite a fetching shade of grey, so wouldn't look TOO bad if were there for ever. :)

In that case, there are two other options:

1. place a curved bar behind the plug and pry it out (this will probably break break the socket but less mess than the hammer approach)
2. use a hacksaw to cut through the plug pins, it should then be possible to remove the faceplate and reveal the fixing screws.

Obviously make sure all power is OFF before attempting this.

flameport, will try your tips to-morrow (don't want to put power off so late at night). I'll let you know what happens, many thanks.

Flameport, you have hit the "nail" on the head, Only thing wrong, you beat me to it.

The plug is probably stuck in there because of a loose connection has caused some overheating. The loose connection may have been in the pulg, or the connections to the socket.

Either way it is likely that the socket's innerds will be damaged so a new socket will be needed.

If you can't find a replacement, post a picture on here - someone will know where you can get a new one.

(HINT: the maker's name will be stamped on the rear of the socket).

Flameport, delighted to say I managed to free the plug, using a bar. Socket doesn't seem damaged, but I won't use it again ! Thanks SO much for your help. :)
