Hi all.

I have recently purchased a house, and it is becoming quite evident that the previous owner DIY skills were lacking.

See attached photos. Whats the best way to tidy up these corners. Im going to paint a different colour, but it looks like he has slapped the paint without a care in the world, causing lumps and bumps everywhere.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I think the plaster is bumpy and paint is just on top. You can try sanding but it might be hard going.

You need to scrape the lumps off, sand as flat as you can, then fill all the dents, sand flat, prime the bare filler with watered down emulsion, top coats of emulsion.

Be sure to remove all dust as you go.

Yeah those lumps and dents look like they carry on beyond the corners, the whole pic is like it. Is the whole ceiling/wall like it? Do you want to make the whole thing flat?

Agree about scraping/sanding/filling if its the corners, but if its the whole room you might want to knock all the high points off with a scraper and get it all skimmed.
