To all those that welcome/encourage the small boat migrants.

There is also information to suggest they are increasing the occupancy of rooms too.

It isn't racist or anything bad to put your own country and people first. This is where we are going wrong, people are frightened to be classed as a racist if they think of our own people first. We have enough people living in poverty and homeless that the money should be directed towards ourselves first. That surely is just common sense.

And yet compared to most of Europe, despite all of the above, SA was and still:

- is poorer
- has a much greater degree of wealth inequality
- has greater levels of corruption
- has more crime overall, and significantly more violent crime
- has a much lower quality of life overall
- has a much lower life expectancy
Haha you compare South Africa to Europe?

South Africa has had 30 years of corrupt government and the people there are just waking up to this.

Mottie is talking about times prior to this starting.

It's had huge problems with illegal migrants entering from the North (eg Zimbabwe) and taking jobs from the locals and causing crime to increase even further.

It still has the biggest economy in Africa + thanks to the foundations laid by the British system, natural resources and a few competent people.

Why be negative about a previous sensible immigration/work permit policy?

Of course it is.
You say that smugly I am sure. I look at immigration both ilegal and legal like this. It is all very nice seeing people wanting a better quality of life but it isn't up to our government to give them that when our own people need taking care of. We can have a heart and still care about those who are seeking this from other nationality's, but we can only take care of others when we have our own house in order.

Depends on how you define "sensible".

If it satisfies a hate or prejudice for example, some might consider that "sensible".
Regardless of the negative effects it has on the country as a whole.

No

If people cared about putting the people of this country first they wouldn’t have spent the last 40 odd years voting for Thatcherite neo liberal policies that has massively increased wealth inequality.

But you support right wing politics which makes people living in poverty worse off.

Whose interests do you think establishment multimillionaire Farage puts first

The country, was in a mess, she sorted it out, so those putting the effort in, could see the rewards of their efforts.

Not at all. No one is asking the boat people come here, but they do and we need to deal with it.
This is exactly the issue, nobody has yet come up with a workable system that stops people arriving.

Signs on the beach saying no entry just do not work.

Processing and action is the only sensible short term action. Stopping the arrivals is the longterm action. Labour (not perfect by any means) are at least taking some steps and getting some foundations in place. This isn't a recent issue, it's been happening for years and nobody yet has got to grips with it.

Accepting people are here and need dealing with, is not the same as "welcoming" anybody
