To all those that welcome/encourage the small boat migrants.

The country, was in a mess, she sorted it out, so those putting the effort in, could see the rewards of their efforts.
The country was in a mess, I agree.

Last time I looked it is in a far worse mess.

She didn't cure anything, just started the big divisions that exist, and have been amplified recently.

It isn't racist or anything bad to put your own country and people first. This is where we are going wrong, people are frightened to be classed as a racist if they think of our own people first. We have enough people living in poverty and homeless that the money should be directed towards ourselves first. That surely is just common sense.
If the countries these people are fleeing from put their citizens first, we wouldn't be in this mess.

And pleeeeease, I don't need a lecture on how that's all our fault as well ;)

Not at all. No one is asking the boat people come here, but they do and we need to deal with it.
The boats started becoming a thing in 2018, following Calais security being improved and many other factors.

We are very weak on immigration. If Trump were in charge here I bet they would stop quickly
- Migrants turned around/sent back to France
- Processed off shore and sent back to origin way quicker
- France would be annoyed and would very quickly stop allowing them into their country
- Migrants would get the message and stop trying this route.
Just like numbers skyrocketed under Biden and are way lower under Trump, could be different here but with Starmers weakness on immigration they will continue to rise

I disagree.

Trump's power lies in the size and economy of the USA. This allows him to bully people into submission, or else.

We do not have that power, we cannot put tariffs on the EU.

Nobody likes the present situation but it is something we need to deal with in cooperation with others. There is no point pretending that we can invade France and dump the boat people there. It is pie in the sky nonsense and not a serious argument.

Shame you ignored all the facts

All that is doing is putting prices up in usa.

For example, Nike and Adidas.

Yes the Government is collecting tax money, but it is the usa cutomer paying for it

We are encouraging them over here by the mere fact of taking care of them the second they step foot onto our shores.

We would encourage them less, if they were processed quicker, returned if not accepted, and allowed to work to earn their keep if they are.

The whole mess is simply down to lack of processing and action.

It's not a recent thing, it's been building a few years, ever since the Tories tied their own hands together over the mess.

news from Greece today:
The new migration minister, Thanos Plevris, has told the BBC his country faces a "state of emergency". He warns of an "invasion" if Europe does not enact tough measures and talks of the need for strong deterrence.

"Anyone who comes will be detained and returned," he stresses.

Detaining is the easy bit. Returning is much harder.

Numbers entering Europe actually dropped 40% last year overall.

The particular problem Greece is having is that Italy has made agreements with governments in North Africa to intercept boats trying to reach Italy. So some are heading to Greece instead. A bit like whack-a-mole.

I have always maintained this is a problem caused by our politicians, I have never blamed the illegals for coming over and taking advantage of our own stupidity. Laws need changing as do our attitudes towards our politicians and their policies, hence why Farage is so popular..

But take it a step further.

What can Farage ACTUALLY do that is different ?
