Back boxes that had single 13 amp sockets removed.

Removing the back box and repairing the walls without leaving obvious scars would be difficult.

Fitting standard blanking plates is acceptable.

Then the idea of using the boxes to house a low level light source was suggested and accepted.

Before I start cutting plastic sheet are translucent blanking plate available ?

Thanks Flameport for the Aurora link. They appear to be 4 bright LEDs which would not be acceptable.

The illuminator will be a piece of electroluminescent panel to create a glow rather than a light.

Provided there was adequate 'accessibility', I feel sure that it would not be beyond your electronic abilities to revise the light output!

You'll be surprised how much light gets through SOME of the PLASTIC accessories, years ago it was quite fashionable to put a neon behind a switch to make it visible in the dark.
