Trading on Wall Street was temporarily suspended as a result of sharp falls after Trumps speech.

"The sharp moves lower for global stocks followed US president Donald Trump’s announcement of a travel ban in a televised address late on Wednesday after the World Health Organization said the crisis was now a “pandemic”.

“This was the most expensive speech in history,” said Luca Paolini, chief strategist at Pictet Asset Management, pointing to the slide in the value of US stock futures as President Trump spoke. “Investors are voting with their feet, and I can’t blame them. Markets wanted reassuring, and this was not reassuring.”

I find it very amusing that the amurcans have narrowed their pool of potential next presidents to A-grade Coronavirus fodder:mrgreen:

Its sensible for America to temporarily ban travel from mainland Europe (France, Spain, Germany) - they have been hit hard, relative to the US, particularly when you look at cases per capita. The UK with its physical boarders is well below where it should be in the rankings. We should be showing low thousands by now, given our population density and climate.

It helps that we can only test 2-4,000 cases a day and that we're no longer testing people who haven't been admitted to hospital.

Let's not break out the bubbly yet.

The chief medical advisor says there could be 5000 to 10,000 cases
