Trumps blinks and caves in to China

Whichever country has the largest trade surplus.
America imports an awful lot from China, so America’s economy will suffer the most.

If American businesses decide to move suppliers away from China, that will mean a lot of cost to the business, especially for complex goods like iPads, changing suppliers will cost many millions……which might be wasted as Twumpy might just change at a whim.

Which country is going to be worse off: America or China?
When the tariff war with China started, Trump was the weaker of the two heads of state.
When most of your stuff comes from China, and you impose 140% increase at the border, China is going to feel the pinch as exports to USA go down but they have other horizons to focus on for both exports and imports. US factories pulling out will hurt China but the relocation of factories does not happen overnight ( this has been happening long before the tariffs war started)

In retaliation, USA soya export was hit hard as China purchased from elsewhere.

Was a case of who will blink first. Not the Chinese head. Old civilisation against failed businessman, cheater on golf range, liar too unless reported by Fix News. Trump does not have the bottle, now tail between legs, he is capitulating. 90 days grace. Strongly suspect the issue will quietly be swept under the carpet as other storms will be raging by the time the deadline is reached.

Labour costs for one, do you think Americans will work for Chinese wages? No chance. That's why these companies are in China in the first place.

China wages have been increasing by 10-15% per year for at least 10 years now, companies are looking at India and Vietnam for this reason. Ironically, one stat I read suggested that Mexico was cheaper as a manufacturing hub than China but I find that hard to believe.

Which is what they'll do, and why they were in China to begin with. No point arguing that it is just as cheap to manufacture things in America when it obviously isn't.

Capital goes where the profits are.
If it was as cheap to manufacture goods in America as it is to manufacture them in China , then American companies would never have gone to China in the first place.
That Principle hasn't changed.

China's reliance on the American Market for its exports has been declining year on year, the Chinese have been planning for this ever since Trump imposed tarrifs on China during his first term of office.
What China is worried about is Trump using economic coercion against other countries to force them to choose between trading with America or trading with China.

Unfortunately gas112 is just making up stuff he knows nothing about in his desperation to support the Orange idiot

"they cost pennies to make" says gas112

industry analyst firm says: " IHS estimates that the iPad Air costs Apple between $274 and $361 to build"

Re-shoring manufacture of Apple products away from China is very costly and takes years

from January 2024:

Apple's suppliers have so far spent $16 billion to move from China
