Unreasonable porch costs?

Yes I'd like to see what this bargain porch looks like.

Is the cedar cladding proper cedar cladding or the cheap stuff for sheds, for instance?

Likewise for the door, and frames.

"Proper" cedar cladding as I also have on two dormers, yes (if I remember it came to over a third of the overall cost). The door is a Hemlock door from Howdens, as already indicated.

I didn't have any skip costs as the garden is big enough to redistribute the diggings.

Next? ;)

Sounds like a high maintenance porch to me, hence the initial outlay. The majority want maintenance free and are prepared to pay for it.

All that wood - sounds like a fools errand.

True, I could have gone for the low-maintenance luxury uPVC option, which describes the majority of porches. Apart from the luxury bit.

But you're right - hardwood will never catch on as a building material
