The point I'm trying to make is that the word uppity was used in conjunction with the N word, uppity n***er, and has seemed to become,by association, racist in it's own right.

I believe the plantation foremen frequently told the slaves (according to films) to "Get back to work" so I think this phrase should be banned.
As I have said before, the word 'boy' (it used to mean servant) is also considered an insult if used toward black people but for some reason it is never queried. I wonder why.

When my daughter first joined the Police as a rookie they had her & her Sergeant supervisor out in a nearby town centre during the weekend's drinking competition.
Imagine her surprise as her siblings, uncles, cousins & old family friends started walking by & drunkenly barracking her until finally the 't'owd' man' turns up & wags his finger in her face, "don't you get uppity with me little missy cos' I've changed your nappy"
She can still tell this story with both venom & laughter, depending on the audience. Now I must beg her forgiveness for being a racist???

In the heat of the night, probably one of the best films of all time. Saw it a few times in my younger days but picked up a copy in HMV earlier this year whilst browsing the dvd's. Still a powerful film with superb actors.
