VIDEO: Is this portable gas heater operating safely?

I got the gas fire out of the garage ready for winter and the flames seem to be reaching higher than I remember, beyond the fireproof material and into the metal surround. Is this normal, and would a new gas bottle remedy it as it is almost empty? Is it a fire and carbon monoxide threat?

It look like a flueless fire.

I would suspect that it is a serious carbon monoxide risk.

Quite apart from the flames coming out of it!

Have you tried turning it down?

All naked flames are CO risks though. Even if your portable gas heater were operating normally the instruction manual says

At MAX setting the Heater requires a MINIMUM of 52.5 Sq Cm of ventilation both at a high and low level within the room, YOUR HEATER CONSUMES OXYGEN WHILE IT IS WORKING. FOR THAT REASON ADEQUATE VENTLATION SHOULD BE PROVIDED IN ROOMS IN WHICH THE HEATERS IS USED. THIS ENSURES THE REMOVAL OF PRODUCTS OF COMBUSTION AND ALLOWS THE ENTRY OF REPLACEMENT AIR.

I think there is something blocking the jet. Try cleaning it.

Regardless, any open flame should have sufficient airflow entering the property, even a gas hob.
