Remember the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool that updates and runs a scan on ‘Update Tuesdays’ can also be run manually.
Start -> Run -> type MRT -> OK. Then run a quick or full scan.

***************************

I trust you do not have both AVG and Avast installed and running as they will cause no end of problems.

**************************

As you can get online, try:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/Dr.Web_CureIT_d4783.html
Read about it then down load it.

**************************

Download MalwareBytes' AntiMalware using the BLUE button for the FREE version and Save to Desktop.
Right click the setup icon on the desktop that you have just downloaded, and click Rename.
Rename it Kevs-setup.exe (or something like that).

* Double-click Kevs-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to the following:

o Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
o Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

* Then click Finish

If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.

* Once the program has loaded, select > Perform Quick Scan, then click > Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click > OK, then > Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click > Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Save this log to My Documents in case it is needed for reference.

Kev. Have you any cd's or dvd discs that the anti virus programmes came on?

If so you will be able to do a start up from these and scan from these without having to boot into windows ;)

Kev,

Pleased to hear that you got it sorted with a bit of 'nous' , renamimg Dr WebCurit.

This is what it is all about:
http://old.antivir.ru/english/inf/virus.php?id=531

Which antivirus do you now have installed, AVG or Avast, or another?
Whichever one you have, run a full scan in Safe Mode and remove everything it finds.

Then, may be a pain in the bum, run the scan again but when the computer is in normal mode. If that scan proves clean, purge your system restore points and then set a new one:

Purging System Restore

To remove all SR Points thus removing any contaminated ones:
Turn OFF System Restore then turn it back ON and then set a new restore point.

In XP:
Follow these instructions (method 2)
Then set a new restore point by following these instructions.

In Vista:
Follow these instructions.
Then set a new restore point by following these instructions

In Windows 7
Follow these instructions
Then set a new restore point by following these instructions

Doing that will prevent you accidentally restoring back to an infected point if you have any other problems in the future.

As the virus uses you address book, be very wary of opening any unusual emails from friends that begin with 'Hi'.
