Advice please re the above!

My first instinct is to take out one of those plumbing / central heating insurance packages from eg British Gas Homecare.
But I'd rather hire a local specialist (corgi engineers?) for the job to obtain a more personal service.
The person also needs to do a safety check on the gas-fired chimney.

I'm worried that the job would be too small for them: What do you think?
Any idea of how much it's likely to cost?
And how do I go about finding a decent one to avoid "cowboys"?

Thanks!

The proportion of cowboys is really very small and if you ensure you find someone who is CORGI registered then that is a good start. The CORGI web site has find a registered search.

A routine service is usually about £55. Edit: additional £15 for safety check only on gas fire, additional £15 for service on gas fire.

I would suggest you avoid the firm who postcards people and does services for £35 in just 10 minutes and often ends up putting on faults!

However by far the best way is by personal recomendation.
