Looks like a UPS.

Pretty basic - probably home made.

I was told it was for a door entry system, but was not sure, the batteries put me off. didn't realise they needed batteries.

But I would supply a socket from the final circuit that supplies a door entry PSU.

Why they didn't use something like this I am not sure - What they have looks a bit of a bodge...

The mains wiring lash up looks like alarm engineer standard.

Managed to use some earth sleeving at least!

And using it does not make up for biting the cable sheaths off.
