What have you been doing today?

Did my bit for a charity today. First off, we had a leaflet through the door offering a free pack of 'Always' ladies incontinence knickers. I’m also taking in the mail for a neighbour who is in holiday so I swiped theirs as well. Got one free pack with my shop from Sainsbury’s and another with a shop from Waitrose. I normally drop them in the Foodbank bins in the supermarkets but my mum passed away a month ago and she had boxes of them so I gathered all them up, plus boxes, packets and tins of unopened in-date food PLUS, two full carrier bags of unopened, in-date freezer food and took the lot down to the Rainham food bank. Good deed done but I think it’s going to cost me! I came out of a road onto the A1306 and thought I only had a little way to go to turn left so stayed in a bus lane (route in red) when I should have taken the route in green. I’m expecting a £60 bus lane ticket to pop through my door because there was a camera covering that section. What is it they say - no good deed goes unpunished?

We did similar today, I was taking the duff drone back to the charity shop where it was bought, plus a pile of surplus, useful items.

The rest of the day, spent trying to fathom the drone rules, and options.

I did similar today. I swiped my neighbours knickers off the washing line rather than her incontinent pads. We have all done it.

Tidying up Mrs Motties bush! Rosemary bush over the allotment.

It’s 75p a sachet for Rosemary in Sainsbury’s- I must have chucked three hundred quids worth away.

A bit more weeding over the allotment. Came across these Aubergines amongst the weeds so lamb moussaka later in the week.

Noticed that some bees from the hives had started to swarm on the back of someone’s car - with my history with bees, I kept well away.

Took a full load of weeds up to the tip. In front of me was a St Francis charity Luton van. They had about a dozen of those large builders sack in the back, the ones you get a ton of sand delivered in. They were full of CD's. and they were just binning them. I looked at the blokes tipping them and they said we just can’t sell 'em.
Companies like Music Magpie buy them. OK, they might only offer you 20 or 30p for most of them, but when you have 100s, that's got to be better than binning them, surely? Plus, you're saving them from landfill.

Fitting a combined remote control fan and light, in the living room[1}, plus firing up immersion heater, electric heater, washer, and dish washer - to make use Octopus's two hours of free power, announced yesterday, beginning at 12:00. We got it all set up, ready to go, took the lampholder/ceiling rose drop down, went in the workshop, started making up a timber spacer for the fan, switched the saw on and the RCD tripped.

Back in the house, reset the RCD, saw tripped it again, restarted all the appliances, started the saw, it tripped again. Tried to reset it a third time, and it wouldn't reset, so tried it with all circuits off. It reset, so tried adding the circuits back one at a time, and found it tripped on the downstairs lighting circuit. Parted two blacks, at the living room ceiling, and it then didn't trip.

Now, I just waiting until 2pm, the end of the free power period, before investigating further.

[1] We bought the same remote fan/light unit some while ago for the bedroom, and it has been great - and so decided to buy a second one for the living room. Problem was, the living room ceiling light, has a large plaster ceiling rose on it, so the fan unit, needed to be spaced down to clear the rose, with a made up bit of timber packing.

Followed by a longer delay, whilst we watched a film, but now sorted and all working. The two blacks were neutral, and loop neutral, a red switch wire, plus earth. Obviously, somebody borrowed a neutral somewhere, but that's for another day.

Fitting a new bathroom cabinet and basin. Gorgeous unit but what else would you expect from the voted sexiest couple in the village.

In between cooking the Sunday roast, I popped down the stables and collected 15 bags of pure horse shĩt and ran it straight over the allotment.

Mrs Mottie made me wash my hands before continuing with the dinner! Posh bitch…….. ;)

Got an invite from the NHS, then one from my GP, those to make appointments, so I made an appointment with the GP, then on Friday one from local pharmacy, to just drop-in on Sunday morning, without an appointment, for the flu and covid jab. I prefer not to be tied to times, with appointments, and so took the pharmacy option yesterday. Then I cancelled the GP one, I kept as a backup.

It was one jab, in each arm. Normally, I'd expect the arm to be a bit achy, in bed, during the following night, but not this time. This time I was slightly delirious - I woke Av up, complaining about a tyre she had put in the bed, between us, then a second time complaining about 'someone sitting on me' - so she says, and I vaguely remember it.

I was feeling alternately hot, then freezing cold, shivering, and dehydrated - so at 2am I got up and downed a full glass of lemonade. Then tried to sleep on the settee, but felt too dizzy to sleep, and ended up just sitting for two hours, on the edge of the settee, having to catch myself as I began to doze off, sitting. Av came down after a couple of hours to check on me, and I finally felt fit enough to try to sleep in bed.

I finally got some proper sleep, and she left me in bed, catching up, until 11am. I got up this morning, feeling absolutely fine.

New bathroom vanity cabinet finished. Had the day off as was out on call last night. But pleased with the fit and finish. Total project under £500 so pretty chuffed.
