What have you been doing today?

I’m sorry for his loss. But I don’t think a normal person would use a funeral to grab a few points
As soon as I read it I thought the exact same,. I thought his loss isn't worth me saying anything as it looks as though I might be picking on him.

Been up and had some microsuction on my lug'oles this afternoon. One ear blocked up when I had that heavy cough/cold last week. Didn’t get all of it out despite me adding olive oil for a week. It didn’t get to soften one particular boulder next to my eardrum. More oiling for another week and a follow up suction next Friday.

True story, bizarre but true. About 12 years ago I woke up one monday, numb of one side of the face, completely deaf on that side, it was a horrible feeling. Phoned the Doctor and was told to take eardrops for a week or two and see what happens, not much help. On the Tuesday I had a call from an old girl (her and the hubby were in their 80's) about a decorating job, could I give them a price, I'd done a few jobs for them before so I said I'll pop round that evening. Had a quick look, only about 3 days work so I said I'd email them with a price and if they're happy with that we'll book a date.
Anyway, whilst exchanging pleasantries she said so how are you, I said not great, got a blocked ear, doctors just told me to take ear drops. So, at that she said I'll do it, which was a bit random and completely threw me. Panicking, I said it's actually starting to clear now, I'm sure it'll be fine in a couple of days.
Got home and said to mrs filly, you'll never guess what's just happened, an old girl who wanted a quote offered to syringe my ears, mrs filly said is she a nutter?, I hope you said no, of course I said no, what do you think I am, stupid?
Anyway, Wednesday the discomfort got worse and by Thursday it was really bad.
Thursday night I said to Mrs filly I cant take this anymore, I'm going to phone that old girl.
I had a chat with her and told me to come round about 10 am Saturday, she said it can get a bit messy so she'd do it out in the garden.
Rocked up on Saturday and it was raining heavily so she opted for indoors, I asked mrs filly to come with me in case anything went wrong.
She'd moved all the furniture in the conservatory and laid out a green plastic tarpaulin on the floor with a seat in the middle of the tarp, behind that a table with some instruments on, by now I was s******g myself. it looked like a scene from Goodfellows.
Anyway, she chucked some towels round me, told her husband to get some hot water, then asked me if I was ready.
I got a shock and jumped a bit when she did it, wasn't painful but the rush of water startles you a bit.
And then I sat there basking in the instant relief, no pain, hearing restored, it felt like heaven.
I asked her if could take a picture of her instrument before we left, if you look carefully you can see the green tarp with eyelets on the floor. After we left we went and bought a big box of chocolates and a nice bunch of flowers, I didn't want to buy them before in case it all went wrong.
Mrs filly had a good old natter with her it transpired that she used to be a nurse in ENT and when she retired, that kit on the table was her leaving present.

lol. That was what the doc used the first time I had my ears syringed. I had to hold a kidney bowl close to my neck, he loaded the syringe with warm water, took aim and it felt like water was going in one ear and out the other. First shot didn’t do it so he went again. That did the trick. The bowl looked like someone had tipped a cup of fluff and mud in the bowl. I walked home and could her the birds singing, it was wonderful. Mind you, he could have told me I had the same amount of crap on the side of my face and on my neck and I’d walked home like that! They don’t use those syringes anymore - too many burst eardrums I heard. The next couple of times a different GP used a gentle pump of some sort to flush the ear out, that felt really nice. They don’t do ear clean-outs more in the GP surgery so I’ve been going to specialists. Since then, I’ve always gone for microsuction. First time I went they pulled a wax pellet out of each ear the size of a rat turd!

I think GP's backed away from it because of the 'liability' issue, but then seeing private practices charge good money some have drifted back into it as a side hustle.
Unfortunately the old girl who did mine has since died, dementia I believe.

I've only ever had a blocked ear the once, I cleared it with warm olive oil. My right ear produces no wax, my left does, but now usually clean them in the bath, by squirting in a 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide very occasionally - but never if the ear canal is blocked, or if you have a perforated ear. I lean my head, squirt it in, then leave it until the fizzing stops, then rinse.

I notice my ears are becoming blocked, as I did my right ear last week, when I sometimes hear a crackle like noise, when massaging it. I simply put a drop of olive oil in, for the day.

Looks quite handy, for icing cakes too :-)

Our grandsons school had an inset day today so Mrs Mottie and I had him stay over last night and we took him to Lego Land today. He woke us up at 5.40 this morning, just in case we overslept! His Dad gave him £30 to buy some Lego but not surprisingly he came away with around seventy quids worth as well as the £30 he brought with him. A bit of drama when his wobbly tooth came out while we were in a queue, he thought it was great - more money to come tonight from the tooth fairy. In all a great day and he nodded off on the way home. We're just as knackered too - deffo an early night for us too, it’s been a long, long day.

I've been looking for a utility, which regularly pings an IP, and reports/lets me know if the ping fails a few times in succession. Problem is, smart plugs.....

They can work just fine for months, then crash and stop doing what they are programmed to do. Ping Alert, seems to be what I need - I have it set to send an email, if the ping fails.

Popped over the allotment this afternoon. Sowed a few seeds in trays in the greenhouse, planted out some strawberry runner plants in a raised bed and although I had taken small cuttings from a neighbours cultivated blackberry bush, I noticed that she had heavily pruned her plants recently and the prunings were still green and starting to bud so I picked out the best pieces, trimmed the bottom, dipped them in rooting powder and just shoved them in the ground. I’ll let you know how they get on and whether they bear fruit. Cultivated blackberries are larger and sweeter than wild ones (they are the ones you buy in shops) plus they have the added bonus of being thornless. You can see the smaller cuttings between the larger pieces.

GP had made an appointment to see me today (yes, that's right), to discuss my ongoing issues with the episodes, with mental disturbance, I was having - nightmares, panic, anxiety, restless, hot and cold, flailing about, unable to settle. All of which I had originally blamed on statins.

I walked in armed with the results of my own research on the subject, plus that of the Kidney Foundation, which had suggested that all the symptoms are likely the result of my kidney failure progressing and the uraemia - the poisons remaining in my bloodstream, a result of the inadequate filtering of my blood, and the poisons making its way to my brain.

The GP seemed very knowledgeable on the subject, and agreed with my diagnosis, that it was the uraemia to blame. I made clear that I despite earlier blaming the statins, I didn't really want to go back on statins, because of all the other (less serious) side effects they had caused me. I'm presently on ezetimibe and more recently bempedoic acid, for cholesterol control. He agreed I should carry on, and see how things develop.
