What have you had for dinner

Last full day of our Cotswolds break and we had booked to go out for a nice meal tonight but we’ve both come down with a rough cold and hacking coughs so we cancelled the booking and bought a few bits in Marks' and will be eating in tonight. We're sharing the mash and veg and Mrs Mottie is having a gluten free pie with hers. Oh, the high life…….

I love that mash :p

That's why i always source my sausages from the same butcher. You know where he buys his pork and the reputation of the farm is of the highest quality. Those supermarket bangers are nowt more than glorified dog meat.

Where's the 1/2 lb of Lurpak?

Duck breast, creamy mash, purple sprouting broccoli and a jus made from beef stock, blackcurrant jam, crushed garlic and balsamic glaze.

Roast lamb, left-over from Christmas, roast potatoes, Yorkie, green beans, and some homemade gravy. I think we are getting the hang of making respectable gravy, at last.
;)

Soup! With Mrs Mottie poorly, she wasn’t up to a Sunday roast today. All I could get her to eat was half a bowl of soup so I had the rest.

Absolutely nothing like the creamy buttery mash that I make at home.

You need to add more butter/cream/milk to shop-bought mash. And usually more salt & pepper.

Mascarpone is good too, and Boursin.

Oh - and with what you had, I'd have taken the cavolo nero out of the veg mix, wilted it in butter, and added it to the mash.

I'm not doomsaying, but if it's the one Mrs M and I had a while ago, be warned it goes on, and on, and on, and on, and on. 5-6 weeks, and leaves you banjaxed for some time afterwards.

Mrs Mottie is having a gluten free pie

If they're anything like the Pieminister ones, gluten-free pastry is lovely - really crispy.

We haven’t found a nice tasting/nice texture gluten free pastry anywhere yet. :(

I'd never liked any other GF stuff I'd tried - bread, pasta, whatever.

No biggie - I'm not gluten intolerant, I just bought them out of curiosity to see what they were like.

The pie purchase was a mistake - I didn't notice it was GF until after I'd bought it, and was pleasantly surprised when I ate it. Maybe it's like AF beer - got lot better over the last few years.

How was she-who-scowls-at-you's pie?
