What was the Wago called before that firm marketed them?

I remember the push in connectors back in 1980 when working in Algeria, I hated them, as only way to remove was cut them off, likely Dutch as working for a Dutch firm NACAP. But I can't remember what we called them, can anyone remember what they were called, we did not even consider maintenance free back then.

Wago was founded in 1950. It never was a different name.

The spring is normally disposed opposite the apertures. When conductors are inserted into the housing they deflect the spring. The spring is then engaged with the wires to impart a clamping force which retains the wires in the housing. The clip is made of a bimetallic strip of material which, when heated by electrical current, expands in such a manner that the clamping force on the wires is increased.

It seems now all we here is Wago, but returning from Algeria did not see them again until late 90's when the DIN rail version was used in control panels. Wonder why they took so long to catch on?

Phoenix Contact have been making push in terminals for many years, the thing we call a wago now is just an extension of that and more makes are available.
