In my example they were, because I was addressing Gee's irrational objection to what he considers an excessive markup.BAS - you have assumed in your example that the materials are the same - they are not
"Smart a**e"? Or people who would quite justifiably think you were being unreasonable to expect them to second-guess a qualified professional who had actually seen the job, and actually spoken to you about what you wanted, and who might justifiably wonder why you were considering employing an electrician whose professional expertise you doubted? If I had asked each trademan to specify the parts they were supplying, I would just be back on these forums asking which parts are best for the job, and presumeably there would be some smart a**e saying "For God's sake".

Or 2000%?Irrationable markup ?? 50? 100? 150? 200%
oops - i did ask
"Also, he will be doing the "Landlord Electrical Test" - is this and the "Periodic Inspection Report" one and the same thing?"
in my original post - anyone know?

It doesn't matter.
What matters is the number in the bottom right-hand corner - that is the only fact, everything else is an accountancy point of view.
If someone told you he could legally get you a brand new Bentley Continental GT for £100,000, being made up of £10,000 for the car and £90,000 for delivery from Crewe, would you object to his irrational delivery charge?
ricicle, the ratio of flameports and electricsuk "thank" to "total posts" compared to yours says it all fella. Now go be a smart a**e somewhere else.

The 'Thanks' feature is only a recent additon. I do not post on here as much as I used to.
But back to the topic - don't you think it would be better for the sake of a few pounds to let the Electrician have the 'headache' of sorting out the correct parts for the job - something he is experienced at doing and to save you the worry of getting it right. Also if anything is incorrect it will be your time and effort to get it replaced. Also if anything is faulty you will have to pay him to take it out and refit new.
If he supplies any faulty goods will have to be replaced by him at his expense !
< After the installation is complete you should be issued with an Electrical installation certificate.
Have you had a periodic inspection report doe already to ensure the original installation is servicable?? >
John - that is what I am asking - is the Periodic Test generally referred to as the Landlord Certificate
Ricicle - ah ok
Do you ever buy anything in shops?Of course it matters... hardware is a fixed price.. no matter who pays for it.
No, what we are in is the realms of a free labour market, where the providers of goods and services are able to set their prices and the consumers of their goods and services are able to decide whether they want to consume at those prices.Labour SHOULD be charged per hour, with accountability.. If not we are in the realms of the "cowboy " culture.
