I could not believe it when I seen that there are over 13000 households with black and white televisions, think it could be due to costs of £49 for black/white or £145.50 for colour licences!!!!!!!!!!!
I dont know anybody who has one or have even seen a black and white tv for years ..

I think you must be right. Like you, I see inside lots of people's houses but I haven't seen a black & white tv in any of them.

probably punters who play a bit of a con,but have actually got a colour tele
wonder if they have had a knock on the door just to see if they have 1 really.??

We claimed to have a B/W TV all through the 70s as a kid, in the eighties/early nineties, i still did it if i could.I was thinking at the time because of limited resources in them days, they would be happy to accept something is better than nothing, it worked.

Actually, bit like todays gov accepting a treat off starbucks.

Quite possibly. There was an old fellar in our pub who never owned a TV. He got raided a few times by the liscencing people checking he really didn't have one.

When you raided do you mean knocked at the door or do they have the power to enter and check??

They have no right of entry until the police get involved, thinking two yrs ?.

They called at might daughters whilst i was walking up the path and a women said"let me see you don't own one and i'll leave you alone for three months".

Told her to go away, she has no right to demand entry she left, on the phone. My daughter bought her license that night, i keep scrapping a lot of posts lately.I'll leave this on.

I think Customs & Excise are the only ones that can walk in anywhere anytime without a police escort.

They don't have power of entry but they can use some clever language which makes you think you have no choice but to let them in, especially if you're an older person.

What about blind people? they only need a B&W tv don't they?

Nahh , blind people get a reduction of the colour licence (assuming they have a colour set) It's also illegal for visitors to a blind persons home to watch the tv. (but how would the TV Licensing people know if a visitor watched the blind persons TV ???) ;) ;)

I got one of them little 6"portable b/w Tv with a radio tuner, classic now. The TV tuner is a dial and you have to rotate to turn between stations, but doesn't work any more due to digital broadcast.

Yes, I bought one of those but it never, ever worked.
