The platelike stuff which clogs heat exchangers isn't stopped by a filter or a magnet. It's in solution until it precipitates out.

The Spirotech filter works in a different way, and does not need a magnet. They only added one to the previous design to reassure people who don't understand how it works.The TF1/Gold has a pretty good size/power magnet.
