Been to a big posh house today to do some jobs, one of them being asked to service the gas fire, fancy thing with tiny pebble fuel bed, it was fitted a couple of years ago by a medium sized local fireplace and fire company, first thing I ask is where is the air vent, oh I dont need one says the customer as the guy that fitted it said it didn't need one, have you got the installation instructions I said, yes he says and off he goes and comes back with them, ahh it says it needs an air vent, let me guess I says, 100cm2 I says, yes he says, so I said I aint touching it and to make the t*****s come back and fit a vent free of charge, of course the fact that their quote would have been cheaper than mine and everyone elses is a coincidence, B******S.

the powers that be can introduce as many regs as they want, ultimately if the installer can't understand them or is not conscientious enough (or does not have the time) to read through it all, then its not gona work, especially
if work ain't gona be policed.

The 93 version of the building regs guidance is a demanding read. The latest version of the guidance is a joke, I bet your average builder can't understand half of it. How then can he be expected to read it, let alone conform to it.

If anyone can read and answer and get through CCN1, then they can read a set of gas fire instructions, of course this is ammunition for corgi to screw the rest of blind because of idiots like this, I think the ventilation requirments were on page 1 so he/she didn't have to look far, not having the time is no excuse at all.

If the current move to report eveything to Building Control continues people will be even more cynical about rules and regs. BC haven't got anywhere near enough staff to police anything.
Part P? Yes I'm qualified but will I be paying for the privilege to report, and reporting and paying again so someone can come and pull it to bits? Don't be silly.
And of course I won't be installing anything gas which needs reporting. Repairs only, innit.

Perhaps we'll become more like the French, rules eveywhere which everyone ignores.
