Why aren't we happier?

I think it will show them both as different flavours of the same sh i te.

With Thatcher the UK had a leader.
With Bliar the UK had a sock puppet. Thats the main difference IMO.
Winston Churchill and Mrs. Thatcher are always voted as the most popular Prime Ministers of all time, by the British. Hardly surprising that Mrs. T NEVER lost an election. How pathetic that there are still 'knockers,' who prefer to lay the blame for today's ills at her doorstep, instead of reining in their fragile ego and facing the truth about the greatness of the contribution she made and Britain's ruination, thanks to socialism. It's a pity that there is not one politician with her strength, determination and courage to lead Britain in this, it's most dangerous and stalinist times.

Over the last few years, several medical woes have descended upon me, having a big impact on my work & personal life. One of the biggest was suffering from a massive anaphylactic shock which technically killed me.

I have decided not to be down at heart, indeed I am very happy, because I could be dead now...

classic example of social memory
not one actual fact and a completely ignoring any thing else.

are you sure you're not max mosley?
do you love having bossy women tell you what to do?
did you like it when she stole things from you and gave them to other people.
do you not register that by her actions the falklands were invaded and her actions sent an inadequate task force which was so close to defeat.
only the sheer grit of the soldiers digging her out of a self dug hole.
yet the british love to wave a flag and vote back a strong leader
that actually shows how little people do actually care who runs a country.

if you were actually around in those days (which i doubt) you would remember that she was heading for the boot. she was highly unpopular. these are facts that your post ignored.

british leyland sold to british aerospace for 40 million when ford had offered 500million for the k-series engine alone! fact

same company then sold to bmw for 400 million......... how come?
honda and leyland were turning things around at that time..

another fact was that in her time of office;the country as a whole was more heavily taxed than at any time before.. this was GDP.. 39.6% at a time when she was supposed to be a tax saving goddess.. facts.. from the tax office itself ;)

i could go on but there is little point because while you are hiding under you bed in your bomb shelter worrying about everybody elses fragile ego and a rampant bunch of stalinists, you wont have time to examine the historical accuracy of what ive written. (even then you would ignore it)

churchill...
how can you compare the two?
by your reckoning thatcher was strong and steadfast
churchill had some years where he, the raf and the merchant navy kept britain afloat..
i admire him for that but the very maverick qualities that he employed as a leader had seen him in the political wilderness for years.
he was also directly responsible for the dardenells/galipoli campaign which was a disaster
so when you were typing from under your bed you managed to get in some good character references about both leaders but miss out all the bad points about both.
one never turned but the other ducked and dived and changed sides.. fact

both used the police to smash ordinary working men! whatever the rights or wrongs of the arguments, the police are not there for that!

social memory its called, i just read up about it. you might look it up but you will have to take off those rose tinted spectacles.
................

in time blair will be looked upon as a good leader because on the whole;he was.
like all leaders he will have stood on some toes;and if its your toes, you will not like him.
he personally affected me more than thatcher ever did.

threads off course now but i take you back to the baby analogy.
women endure then forget then endure then forget again!
they look back on childbirth like it was some romantic thing..(general terms)

we all do it and we all moan, just some of us moan from under our beds while looking at the picture of maggies head stuck on pammie andersons body

oooh beat me maggie beat me!
beat me till my rosey specs fall off!

i would like to buy you a beer

good on you! :)

But do you remember life pre Thatcher? If you don't then you are in no position to judge.

Were you an adult, in employment, before Thatcher, Joe?

Me too: good ol' Mags gave us squaddies a bumper payrise c20%. Mind you 20% of ferk all is ferk all... ;)

Thatcher modernised this nation by beating the unions. No Thatcher and you'd still have Old Labour.

Thatcher freed up the financial markets and made you all wealthy. (with the help of Nth Sea oil).

You've just got short memories.

That is absolute *******s, North sea oil revenue went to pay for all the miners benefits who were unlawfully made redundant by Thatcher.

Goodbye, good riddance.

There was no customer for coal when industry switched to oil and natural gas. The pits had to close. They got far better payouts than they should have got.

oh, but oh, but why were they switched from Coal powered, a resource that the UK has 300+ years in reserve. It was simply incompetantly, stupidly done to break the unions. Frankly Thatch is guilty of treason.

No it wasn't. It was done because it was a better fuel with less acid rain and more economical. Good decision.

Very poor decision, with a bit of investment, coal, can easily be as clean as gas or oil.
