Hi, I have a situation where an electric cable seems to have been routed through the expansion gap of the wooden floor as shown in the image. Additionally, the supply cable has been routed through a hole in the wall from an adjacent room which appears to have been drilled in the safe zone of another socket on that wall.

I'd like to chase the cable into the wall and was wondering if I route it around the corner (as marked) on the image, would that violate the safe zone of the socket on the right side of the image?

Any suggestions on how I can go about this would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm, “violate”?

Yes the right part of your black line is in the “safe zone” of the right socket.

How thick is the wall, compared to your long horizontal chase?

I would replace the skirting board with a wood plank and put T2 trunking butted up to the plank so it looks like at a quick glance high skirting board, paint plank white, the visible T2 does not need to follow permitted routes, or fit trunking skirting if you want a proper job.

Pardon my terminology.

The walls are 25cm thick and load bearing

I asked because I believe the maximum depth of the chase is 1/6 x 25 cm = 4 cm; I guess that is plenty. It’s important to check for single-brick and cavity walls, you really don’t want the walls to fall down!
