Is it immoral to use wireless net access when it aint yours. I`ve got four round near me that have it un-protected

Absolutely ... No different to tapping into your neighbours electric, water or gas supplies.

Don't do it.

The neighbour may not know (if they've left it unprotected they're probably not too technically oriented) but the access will certainly be traceable via both the IP address, NetBIOS name and possibly mac address dependant upon the router they're using.

there was a thing i read / heard, two plastic police offices saw a bloke sitting on a wall with a lap top, he was using the house'e internet connection (not his house) he got nicked

If I have a new laptop (ok secondhand) is wireless enabled and aint been on the net via my modem how can it be traced, :?:

I'd say it is different-you tap into their gas or electric then you are going to increase their utility bill but you're only receiving a signal when you use their wireless connection. Not increasing their isp bill-not saying its right though.

 OH YEAH

It's no different, you're fraudulently using the neighbours service which they are paying for ... Your usage could push them over their download limits (for example) which could incur costs for them.

clfgas: Your laptop has a unique mac address which is exposed via the wireless connection to the router.
Take a look at your own configuration and you'll see what I mean.
Anything you do on the internet can be traced unless you go to extraordinary lengths to prevent it ... ANYTHING.

Story is Ive had to get a new laptop, (better than the last), Got wireless broadband and these four came up when searching for mine.

Aint never had a bill for down loading and would`nt download via thers, so why have it unprotected :?:

Going online via thers is only like getting sat TV on the hookie
