Wiring for replacing 12v MR16s with 240v GU10s

Is this acceptable ?
run 240v switched supply using 2 core cable to each GU10 connected in series using ? connector terminal blocks (choc blok) because the covered round terminal units are too large to go through the downlight apertures ?

No.

All mains cabling must carry an earth conductor.

Terminal strip must be in an enclosure. EG

Not an earth conductor but a circuit protective conductor!
If using choc blocks they must be enclosed to prevent accidental contact to live parts and they must be accessible for maintenance, inspection and testing.

THESE are designed for the purpose, and

you probably don't want to connect the lights in series.
