hi people.

im having problems wiring a light switch in my home which i took off and stupidly forgot to write down where the wires went. I know nothing about electrics so im gonna explain this the best i can. it was re-wired about 2 years ago so the wires are pretty new.

The switch is to switch on my main living room light and the side lights in the same room. Ive wired it up and it works but the side lights can only be switched on and off when the main light is on (so cant have the side lights on their own).

There are 2 cables with 3 wires in each, each cable has 2 brown wires and an earth (both earths are wired to the earth point). So im left with 4 brown wires. the left switch has a common at the top and a 1-way / 2-way at the bottom, this applies to the right side aswell. I dont know which cable is the mains cable and which is the cable from the lights.

any help would be much appreciated as its drving me insane

Separate out the two cables, from one cable try one brown in COM and the other in L1 for one switch, try the same with the other cable for the other switch.

Was there a link wire between the two switches? Is either of the lights 2 way i.e. has another switch elsewhere too?

no there wasnt a link between the 2 switches. and no the lights arent 2 way. these lights could only be switched on by this switch

could i put a link into it as i have some of the cable that was used?
