Is the tank higher than the burner, or is the pump having to draw the fuel? Is there a filter that has not been bled properly? Are you sure there is no fuel contamination?

Why was the whole Burner replaced - seems a bit extreme!! if the old burner displayed the same symptoms then the fault is SITE RELATED and as said fuel starvation blocked oil filter, blocked/faulty fire valve if on a tigerloop or 2 pipe system ,air ingress into fuel line ;)

Thanks for the reply, the tank is higher than the boiler, there is a cabnet htr about two meters away from boiler and has no problems , oil line is clear and filter is clean , its a bit baffling dont u think

We had trouble with our Heatslave earlier this year, the oil tank was topped up the delivery driver forgot to put the lid on the filler cap, didnt notice it, some rain got in and settled to the bottom, it kept locking out intermittently, drained off about a gallon water/oil has worked fine since.

Boss, doesn't your outlet come from the side rather above the bottom to allow for sludge and water?

Or have you tipped it up to get the last ( dirty ) dreggs out when you have forgotten to re order in time?

Tony,
It's a long time since you saw an oil tank.
Plastic ones have to be installed horizontal and only have one outlet.

there is no problem with oil line as i can see because there is a cabnet htr about two meters away and has had no pronlems[/quote]

Is it possible the cabinrt heater is starving the heatslave of fuel?
