use compo or mortar. masonry products are best fixed with cement based adhesive or mortar.
diyers must keep these cartridge adhesive companies in business.
i agree, they have their uses, but they are no substitute for the real thing.
i think 'no more nails' ought to be re-named 'no more fixings for lightweight, zero stressed, no impact, minimal load, hope it ain't damp, hope the wind don't blow -objects'.

I'm not a pro but I suspect waterproof floor tile adhesive would be a good bet... stronger than mortar when its thin and grips better.
agree - many floor tile adhesives are cement based and some of these would be suitable for an external location.
