After much faffing I have had my system properly powerflushed, then Kamco DM added. All very nice, much quieter & hotter rads, boiler still noisy but tolerable.

I want to do my bit for prevention, but I do not know whether to add a Magnaclean or Hydroflow. I understand how Magnaclean works but do recall years ago the concept behind Hydroflow being suspect, although they do seem to be popular now.

Any advice greatfully received!!

Magnacleans suffered leaks due to isolating valve quality and incorrect canister O rings being fitted on a large number.I've have one fitted to my system for 18 months and no problems.
Hydroflows are all brass construction and don't rely entirely on magnetic attraction to remove iron particles from system. They can also remove non magnetic particles so you could argue it is the better device.
Magnacleans must be installed with no excess strain on the pipework.
Fitted close to boiler on the return if possible is the preferred position.
I still prefer Magna's but its a personal choice I made. :)

I have fitted a few fernox TF1s and have been impressed... so impressed that I fitted one on my own boiler a few weeks ago.

Thanks both! From what I have now read (& I am not a plumber), Magnaclean removes oxide from within the CH sytem, Hydroflow prevents scale forming on the mains water side into the boiler. So would I need both? or does the Fernox do both jobs?

No....both the Magnaclean and the Hydroflow are for the CH water only.A scale reducer is fitted to the cold water inlet of a combi to lessen the effect of scaling.

thats what a hydroflow does???it acts as a scale protector,u can either fit them on the cold main to a combi or on an open vented system with tank u fit them on the cold feed to the cylinder

I know. Fit a Magnaclean, TF1, and a Spirovent Magnabooster 2 all in series.

I'm pretty sure a Hydroflow is just for scale (as in the cold main) 45yearsagasman, whilst a magnaclean in for the CH

Gasman77...Yes you are right.I apologise for my mistake and hope it did not cause too much confusion.

Axel, that sounds like overkill, surely not all three would be needed?

I fit the Fernox TF1 at the moment, for customers that are willing to go the extra expense that is.

Spirovent magnabooster 2 is the ideal choice,a tried and tested product made from brass

Hydroflow a british Gas favourite as useful as snake oil for stopping limescale!
