Am I the only person who doesn't understand Ryobi Expand-it?

So, from another couple of my posts, and some googling, Expand-it seems a good way for me to get some half-decent gardening tools, without impacting the mortgage.

I get each of the attachments / extensions but, for the life of me, I can't see what you buy as the "base tool". What is the thing with the motor that all these wondrous beasties plug into?
When I visit the Expand-it part of the Ryobi site, it just lists the attachments.

Can you learned folks please give me a couple of examples of which base tool one could buy?

Cheers for that, but I'm afraid the site leaves me none the wiser. Can anyone who has bought the "head end" let me know what that was? The expandit section of the website still seems to concentrate only on the accessories, without (to my dumb mind) suggest what you're driving them with.

Update; I seem to have stumbled upon the RY34000 four stroke beastie.

I can't find the equivalent code for the two stroke, though?

Are these the *only* driver options for the expand it accessories?

Gotta agree its not overly clear exactly which power unit you need to buy depending on what accessory you want!

I think that the answer is that you're supposed to but a starter kit; RBC30something rather than buy a head, plus a bunch of accessories.

It really ain't that clear!

use the uk site for a start, the ryobi models numbers are different between the US and elsewhere

If you use that link you will see a "compatible with" section, it tells you which ones it works with.

pretty much it seems to be any split shaft line trimmer or brush cutter they make. As mentioned in the other post, don't buy the 4 stroke!

The time is nigh when we'll have no choice but to buy four strokes, due to the pollution levels of the two stroke machine.
Already the smallest of engines are fitted with catalytic converters and non adjustable fuel mixtures.
The Stihl 4 Mix engine is a genuine four stroke that has no oil sump but consumes a two stroke oil mixture (50:1 fully synthetic). It gets through the pollution barrier by becoming more efficient than its two stroke counterpart.
Honda offer a brush cutter that is also a four stroke, but this time it has a wet sump motor with no oil pump. This machine relies on flails to splash the oil around. Naturally it would be unusual to run a brush cutter inverted, but my own machine is fully oil tight.
