mmmm

"Since 2004 every television set, made or imported into the UK, has been required to have fitted to it a miniature camera. Both the former Labour Government and the Coalition have kept this development secret until now for reasons of national security and commercial confidentiality. The camera is located at the back of the screen in the top right hand corner, behind the position of the ‘red dot’. Its capability to take a clear photo is deliberately limited to a distance of 5 centimetres –about two inches - from the screen in order not to intrude into people’s privacy at home". Mr Cameron emphasised this privacy provision: "the ‘photo limiting device’ can only be overridden, en-masse, when a state of national emergency is declared or, in individual circumstances, where the security services apply

First I have have heard of this, interesting and I wouldn't be suprised if true

Both the former Labour Government and the Coalition have kept this development secret until now for reasons of national security and commercial confidentiality.

That old chestnut!

Yup defo big brother, and whether its for national security or not the ability to "spy" on someone in their own home is still open to abuse ie by someone sitting in some government facillity with the capibillity to access anybodys TV, PC or Phone, sitting bored with nothing better to do than to "flick through some channels" as it were

I remember not too long ago with the then labour government, there was some proposal that the taxpayer was going to be subsidising broadband in rural areas because "everyone should have the right be able to have access to the internet etc etc"
eg
http://www.cable.co.uk/news/councils-get-deadline-for-super-fast-broadband-plans-801241298/

FFS some People living in rural areas have had sub-standard electricity/gas(if any)/sewage services for years and what gets done about that? nowt! so why the fuss over the right to internet access?

but then most of us have wireless transmiters routers/mobiles etc in our home nowadays so we are all potentially being watched anyway

Ps why do some people still think the moon landings did not happen?
use your commonsense and think about it
clue there was a "space race" at the time

Pps if im rambling from now on, sorry i'm on the drink ;)

Nahh Mattie,, what you remember was the Labour proposal that everyone with a land line would pay extra to subsidise the cost of the optic fibre broadband, by BT (a wholly private owned company). (not a nationalised company) This was dropped when Labour realised that the public wouldn't stand for , what they seen as yet another tax.
BTW, have a close look at your TV , When you find the secret camera hidden behind the screen, post back and tell us whereabouts it is. I'm sure most TV engineers would love to know. ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

you reckon? if you think they are not under any political influence, then ok john

seen to be dropped mate, as nobody is told what your taxes are actually spent on

I bet "Burlington" cost a packet of taxpayers money at the time

doubtful I will be doing that mate it could be too small to notice for a start and of a technology to far advanced that the general public is allowed to be made aware of, and anyway as I said "first I've heard (but wouldn't be suprised)"

Do you have a foil hat..? ;)

Foil hat issues like this aside...
What is more depressing: The idea of big brother watching the people (eg. cameras in the street), or people watching Big Brother?

Has it happens, our TV has a camera embedded into it.
But then, Sony openly advertise the fact and that it isn't included in lower specced versions.

If they want to spy on you they will. In my experience they can and do, come to your home in the night, drill holes into the mortar and plant listening devices. Place cams just at the end of the drive "hidden" (not) and bug your phone, yes mobiles as well.

So who cares?

Who do you think BT answer to Mattie? The shareholders. As regards the tax on landlines proposed by Labour, It wasn't just to fund the rollout of fibre optic cable to rural areas (as you put it) it was to fund a national rollout. As it is, Edinburgh and surrounding area are getting BT fibre optic broadband, installed as we speak. Not exactly a rural area is it?

what's it got to do with BB?

Dunno what it has to do with BB, but you can bet that BB will be watching the internet.
BTW, if your worried about being bugged etc, why not communicate with your friends using Skype or another VOIP? That's one method of communication the authorities can't crack. ;) ;)

(still don't stop them putting a listening device in yer living room though )

Someone`s read 1984 again

If it was happening why cannot the police catch anyone?

Police do, MI5 are now involved with serious crime but since late 2005 it's now on request from the police. You would be surprised what they get up to but it's all just for gathering intelligence.

I was tracked over a 6 month period just by my mobile and they lifted cctv from the routes I took, even went to companies and private houses that had cctv!!

If they want you they will get you.

Turn your mobile off. Can't track one that's not switched on. ;) ;) ;)
