Hi
Hoping someone out there is an expert with J&S System E-T warm air boilers.
Last year ours stopped working, after some reading up I changed the temperature sensor and the main circuit board, which got it all working nicely again.
In the last couple of weeks there has been a noisy clicking noise coming from the circuit board whenever the room thermostat turns it on or off.
Its not all the time, maybe 30% of the time but I'm concerned its about to fail.
It sounds like a relay switch flicking on and off.
Does anyone have a good idea what's going on and if its an easy enough job to do myself?
Like i said, I changed the circuit board myself so not afraid to have a go, even if I shouldn't?!

many thanks

Warm air systems can be incredibly dangerous if not operating correctly and are not something that a DIYer should attempt any repairs on. Get a gas safe registered engineer in.

That's a bit of an over dramatic reply?!
It's working ok except a relay flickering on and off briefly. Certainly not a gas safety issue IMO as the pilot light is always lit and the boiler fires up ok

My J32 ET has recently started getting the same problem. It sounds like a relay rapidly clicking before the fan kicks in. Did you get this resolved ok? What was the problem? I'm sure your experience would help the engineer when it comes to fixing mine. Thanks.

Any engineer who is familiar with WAUs will be able to diagnose this problem easily without you telling him what was said on an Internet forum. You should, however, ensure that the Gas Safe engineer you contract has WAUs on his list of qualifications. Not many do.

Ok, so it's more for my benefit, not the engineer's. I've no intention of attempting to repair it myself, but I would still like to know if this is going to be a cheap or expensive repair, and whether it means replacing one cheap module or five expensive ones ;)

And not being entirely dumb, I have checked the Gas Safe register for engineers qualified to repair warm air units.

It's capacitors on the pcb
PLug and play replacement
repaired one costs £50 ++ IIRC

Or a new one perhaps £160.

How are you Geoff?

Hi Geoff - do you remember which capacitors & how many you needed to change? my J32 is doing similar things!! I have a spare "system ET" board, that came out of a working J32 about 7 years ago - probably be a good idea to replace these Caps, before changing the board. I am very familiar with electronics & soldering....
Thanks.
