alarm call for all

It doesn't matter what budget constrains people have made if they realise their money would be best spent on other areas of security.

It will stop the opportunist burglar.

If someone is going around with a jammer in his possession he is not an opportunist he a career burglar.
Career burglars wont stop at a wired alarm either but will simply smash and grab or defeat the siren using techniques they know.

is there a height or location requirement for the bellbox for any reason? It needs to be out of reach but not so inaccessible as to make maintenance daft? Or is it a fit and forget box anyway?

I don't know of any rules but you've summed it up quite nicely! There's a battery in the bellbox that may need replacing after many years. Usually, by then, the box looks so shabby that you'll probably replace the whole thing. You can get one for thirty quid.

Think where the cable will come from... If your bell cable comes through the loft, your bell could go on a gable end or under the eaves. Have a look down your street at similar houses and see where they've got theirs!

the front door will not set the entry-countdown bleeping, and any doors set to chime no longer will; and the keypad or fobs will not get a reaction from the panel. A householder who is familiar with his system will notice something is amiss.
The house holder will not be there when the burglar brings his transmitter to the house. If the siren sounds he can go into smash and grab mode. If there is not siren sound he knows he has time to look around the house for better pickings. ( Unless it is a sting house with a silent alarm to the local police )

Have you ever known someone use such a device to help them burgle an ordinary domestic house?
Not personally, I am aware of cars parked on private land having trouble unlocking their cars due to their key fobs not working until after the land owner had explained to them that they had no right to park there.

Have you evidence of a UK burglar being charged for "going equipped" with such a device?
Not case specific with names and location. My source is a forum for radio engineers.

I wonder if mdf can answer this for you, as an approved alarm installer he should be able to get definate information about this matter from his local police crime prevention officers.

EDIT Quoting syntax error corrected

I'm not going to go around in circles with you and your mate John. You can pick these up cheap enough to be in the price range of burglars.

You also have all the HFI to contend with along the way.

There is a reason these alarms are Grade crapper.

My wife works for B&Q and she tells me they always have people coming back over wireless alarm false alarms. She found it hard to believe you had 1 out of 3000.

I have said my bit.

Just unsubstantiated rumour then.

My windowcleaner's wife met a man down the pub who says...

But funnily enough it never gets reported in the local paper, even though they love crime stories.

My neighbourhood watch newletter reports every actual and attempted domestic burglary, including "youth climbed over fence and tried shed door, ran off' and "childs cycle taken from front garden"

Now you are suggesting I'm telling lies?

Never read a report in the paper that listed alarms, have you?

Can't educate pork

OK, I love truth and evidence, so I've got another £5 here for the first person to provide good evidence. It'll be worth it.

"I have had nothing but problems with my Yale alarm in the last 3 months. The control panel PSU over heated and burnt out. We get random tamper messages from the PIRs even when we are in the house. This means the alarm rings my mobile to tell me there is a problem even though I know there is non. Bought from screwfix with no after sales care from them or Yale on how to sort problems. Result: I am left with a Yale alarm I do not trust at all."

"I wanted this alarm for a single story building, and this is just not suitable. Undo one screw on the casing to tske it off. There is a switch inside labelled "OFF" which disables everything including the siren, so you can silence it in less than a second of the anti-tampering feature sounding off the siren.
Except I didn't get that far, because the unit was faulty and sounded off all the time while I was installing it, and the keypad instructions on how to disable the anti tamper feature (to stop that) didn't work"

"I got the Yale home connect alarm (Yale premium alarm) from Yale security point as I wanted an alarm system from a name I could trust. The alarm cost me £450 with installation. I have now found out that I could buy the same alarm (Yale premium alarm) for £200! In other words Yale charged me £250 for 3 hours work! What a rip off. I called the installer after a problem with the control panel only to be told by him that he no longer works for Yale security point. I had to get help via the DIY help email form. Beware of paying over the top installation fees for this DIY class alarm. "

Last one sounds familiar ;)

My £5 offers are still open.

Roll up, roll up!

It would be since you are asking for stats that are not available.

Take me to any house that has a yale wireless fitted, with the permission of the owner, and I will be at the bedroom window within a couple of minutes waving to you. That will include going in through the door without damage.

Sorry?
Approved alarm installer?
I don't think so!

And remember, he's the fella who makes accusations against the police and the CPO.

No, that is not true.

Read it again.

For a start, a single properly-evidenced case will win the £5

If you have no evidence but prefer to circulate unsubstantiated allegation, try not to be offended when it is pointed out.

John, It's clear you have no clue at all and are not worthy of any more replies on the subject, you are just an argumentative troll.
