earthing a gas meter

There used to be a earth wire on the gas pipe but was only thin wire the gas company put new meter in but cut wire off and left a card saying I need a electrician ken m
I'm surprised the gas company didn't re fit the old wire even if it does need redoing. As others have said, it would be better than nothing..

They don't fiddle with stuff like that.

There's nothing to say if it's disconnected at one end it may well be the same at the other...

Is there not an argument for saying that if they are not in a position to reinstate the binding, then they should not be removing it in the first place ? As they are, they have made a "safe" (as in presumably met regs when it was done) installation unsafe - as in doesn't meet either current regs or the regs under which the original binding was done.

I would argue that for the meter changer to do that, they have created a potentially dangerous situation and this should be reported.

What next - change the meter but leave the load side connection leaking (or not even connected), and leave a card telling the home owner to get an RGI in to fix it ?

They should have reconnected the old wire.

Chances are, the bonding wire to the water at the stopcock will be undersized too, so this should need replacing at the same time.

Very bad of them cut the wire off, then start saying it's undersized. Usually they connect it back up.

IME, when a meter is changed, they don't disconnect the wire, only the pipe.
