Europeans thank Tory Britain

It was a trading agreement. Nothing more.

Wrong.

The men who founded the European Movement had just lived through the worst war the world has ever seen. The older ones had also lived through the second-worst war the world has ever seen.

Nothing was more important to them than preventing a recurrence.

It has worked.

The old system of competitive and combative nation states and shifting alliances didn't.

The eu dictators now want £50 billion in a divorce fee.
The remoaners should be singled out and forced to pay up.
It turns out that the UK has financial obligations regarding the EU, and so Brexit won't be cheap (who knew!). And you think that those people who didn't want Brexit should therefore pay for it.

You want to severely damage the prospects of this country, and you want someone else to pay for it. What a strange world you live in.

I don't think Roger is saying that at all John. What he's really saying is "A decision has been made. Accept it and shut up."
And there was me thinking we lived in a democracy. One where you continue to debate the issues. Unless of course Brexiters are afraid of the what will happen?

I don't know where he lives - Elmet, Mercia, Wessex ? - but perhaps Roger would like independence from the United Kingdom. After all, he wouldn't have voted for all that integration and losing control, either.

I thought May wanted a bad deal.

She keeps saying "No deal is better than a bad deal".

What do you mean, that's not what she meant? How do you know?

We could have a in / out referendum every five years, months, or even weeks. A bit like the hokey cokey.

A lot of politicians and MEPs have talked around the possibility of giving the UK a deliberately bad deal / punitive charges as a kind of revenge for 'betraying' the EU.
You think the EU ought to give the UK a favourable deal and encourage other nations to break up the union? Mebbe the EU is thinking along the same lines as the UK's brexiteers and "say stuff you if you wanna leave". Seems to me like this is actually what the brexiteers really want.
It's a funny old world.

If you think about it, if the EU really did give the UK a great deal despite not being a member, it would ipso-facto prove that the EU does not need to exist! The ultimate barriers to free European trade/travel etc are those set up by the EU itself... Hence the EU must gives us a bad deal in order to justify its continued existence.

Nutters like Boris used to tell us you could resign from the golf club, stop paying membership, but still use the course and the clubhouse f.o.c.
