Europeans thank Tory Britain

Ah, but didn't Boris have another speech ready saying he would still belong to the Golf Club even though he didn't play? Just because his friends belonged.

And there was me thinking we lived in a democracy. One where you continue to debate the issues. Unless of course Brexiters are afraid of the what will happen?
Do you complain when the candidate you voted for in an election, doesn't get a big enough share of the vote to be elected? Do you demonstrate vociferously outside your local council house when your candidate for the council doesn't get elected as a councillor? Nah , course you don't.

Interesting to hear that Judy used to support the Blair government when it was in power, and had nothing but agreement with Brown and Cameron, and that now he supports May.

No criticism of the status quo, that's Judy. Strange that I don't recall him supporting the EU.

Is that the one where you get a chance to re-elect another candidate should things not work out with that particular election?

...but you could - as they nearly always win with a minority vote.

Yes,, but only after 4 yrs (at least,, and still no guarantee that your candidate will be elected the next time)

Ahh , would this be the fault of the voters who can't be bothered voting (usually because it's raining, or too cold, or too windy, or "My candidate never wins so I don't bother voting" or "It's a waste of time voting as I can't change anything?" ) Yep, there seems to be millions of them at local council election time. ;)

And not allowed to criticise or comment on the candidate that did get in, you say?

That must be why you never said anything unfavourable about the EU -

...but wait.....!

That's not what I meant - although it does apply.

I meant - because you mentioned candidates in an election - that, because there are more than two, the winner often only has a minority.
You could have an election with five candidates and, though not likely, the winner could have only 21% - not really democracy.

Wrong.

The men who founded the European Movement had just lived through the worst war the world has ever seen. The older ones had also lived through the second-worst war the world has ever seen.

Nothing was more important to them than preventing a recurrence.

It has worked.

The old system of competitive and combative nation states and shifting alliances didn't.

Wrong.
It was a trading agreement.
Countries need little more than that to prevent war.
Ceding power to a cartel is not a recipe for peace. Just look at the state of Europe now with more and more countries wanting out.
The Europhile remoaners have got it wrong.

The war ended in 1945, and the European trading area wasn't created until 1973, and Degaulle kept blocking our membership. Heath admitted in his later years, that he knew they intended to make it into a federal states of Europe, but didn't dare tell us about it, as he knew we'd reject it. It's Nato that stops us going to war, nothing to do with the EU whatsoever; and now they want to create their own army, that'll just stir thing up even more with Russia.

The EU have decided we should pay for all the projects and pensions, but when you move from one company to another, you don't keep contributing to the last companies christmas party do you. And as to leaving the golf club, but still playing there, well you can resign your membership of the club, and just continue as a pay as you go member. We have no finacial obligations with the EU, that's just one of their bargaining points, nothing more.

Neither Italy or Greece want to leave, but will be forced to at some point or another, simply to get their economy going again. The right wing in France want to get out of Germanies control, and even the German people are fed up with bankrolling the rest of the cr@p economies, but the people at the top want to retain control, so will fight to the end. Denmark is considering leaving, and I'm sure others are biding their time.
