A proposed law that would require landlords to make homes fit for human habitation would be an unnecessary regulatory burden, a Conservative MP has argued.

Philip Davies, who derives an income from renting out property, said the new bill proposed by a Labour MP would put “a huge burden on landlords”.

If we have people like this in power - how do they sleep at night and how do people keep voting them in?

London fire: Prime minister orders full public inquiry

but:
The political decision whether to appoint a public inquiry into an event was found to be dependent on several factors. The first is the extent of media coverage of the event. Events that receive more media interest are more likely to be inquired. Second, since the appointment of a public inquiry is typically made by government ministers, events that involve allegations of blame on the part of the relevant minister are less likely to be investigated by a public inquiry.

Sadiq Khan has called for an independent inquiry.

It is the local authority whose responsibility this was, so that's kind of a moot point isn't it ?

The laws and direction are set by the government so of they want a free for all deregulated mess and the LA simply meets requirements who is at fault?

I realise property is in short supply, but -

who would rent property that is not fit for human habitation?

The British fire services need a few of those huge American fire engines that can reach their ladders to the top of skyscrapers. I admire the efforts of the London Fire Service tremendously. They haven't got the equipment they need.

Deregulated mess? Jesus wept, I suggest you actually talk to a landlord before saying something like that because I can assure you there's enough already!! Let's be honest you're jelous of private landlords, you want the government to tax them more. It's laughable you use such a poor and inappropriate example really.

who would rent property that is not fit for human habitation?
people in desperate need.

And who would be the landlord of such property?
people of desperate greed

What was the name of that notorious criminal gangster and landlord who ended up in prison? And built a wall of old fridges to block a public right of way? Van hoogenstrans? something like that?

If the laws allows you to and you either are powerful landlord or a rich one then people will still rent from you as the alternative is being homeless.

Kind of shows that you know nothing about me but start into a personal attack. Without providing a response. By the way I am a landlord and the regulations are not a problem.

How is regulation to maintain the safety of people a burden. Your attitude that profit must come before safety is truly abhorrent.

hawker wants the right to rent out homes that are unfit for human habitation

perhaps he is a tory MP

I'm laughing because this building is the LA's responsibility and your calling for more regulation for private landlords. Just a laugh that is.

I'm not disputing that there are bad landlords.

Are you two saying that these landlords have some way of making it compulsory to rent their places?

Well I'm one of the ones that pays your beloved pension John, so you better shut up before I stop the tap, because your beloved migrants won't pick up the tab.
