outdoor lights

Hi, my son bought string lights for outside ,on the box it says indoor & outdoor use ,
but i'm a bit worried how they can be safe if not low voltage can these be left outside for good

Show us a picture of the product & the box.

But usually the lights are OK for outdoor, if that is whah it says.

Do these plug direct into the mains, or is there a power supply too?
If so the power supply will usually only be for indoor use.
So the lights will work until frost/UV/ mechanical damage or general failure means you need a new set.

sorry can't get a photo till the end of the week ,but from what i can remember there is a
basic 3 pin mains plug just along from that a small box ,i didn't have a good look at the time but believe it may be for the light settings ,will have a good look next time i'm at my sons
 
That will help. There's lots of variations.
If there's a control box the plug may actually be a combo plug and power supply.
Will wait, with bated breath.

What voltage do you think street lights run at?
 
We have just started doing Lidl and I was surprised to find there lamposts have 400 volt 3 phase cut outs in each.
