We won't get any Trade Deals - Zero

BMW is entitled to express its opinion to the German government

BMW expresses its opinion to the EU, otherwise what would be the point of handing over large amounts of bribes lobbying dosh

Let just use BMW as an example.

They want to sell us new their cars and want us to use their genuine parts. They also want us to use their UK based BMW Financial Services to buy the cars.

What sort of deal are they going to want? I’d say they will want to trade with the UK in a way that benefits their profits and putting prices up through tariffs will do them no favours. So based on that i’d say they would be very interested in a good deal.

The problem is - the issue is one of legality and it's a bit of a misnomer to call it a deal. For example if I was employing you and you didn't have right of work in the UK to work could I do a deal to get you to work for me? Not without either breaking the law or changing the law.

So Brexit we want freedom of movement of goods but not people which breaks the key principles of membership. So will the EU break their own principles and laws to make us a deal? Nope because if they were willing to do that we would have been further on in our negotiations. It's why the EU team is led by lawyers- it's a legal issue, if it was a financial issue then it would have been led by accountants, financiers etc - it isn't.

Back to your point about cars. As pointed out by John above we export about 60% (I think) of the cars we make in the UK and we purchase more cars from the EU than we export. So for a UK consumer the price of the BMW if its final assembly is abroad will be higher due to import tariffs as well as a weaker pound. The financial services arm of BMW is based in the UK and debt is denominated in sterling so Brexit will have little impact on it.

However the impact on our exports will be more problematic as parts criss cross the EU each time they will be faced with tariffs so finally when the car is assembled in the UK it will already have an added cost in terms of tariffs already paid for on parts before its exported finally to the EU when a further tariff will be applied. Overall the final cost will more likely be higher even after we factor in the depreciation of the pound because this scenario assumes that the ports are able to pass through the containers with minimum delay ( remember these just in time manufacturing systems really have very little slack to overcome any delays - they don't want working capital tied up) which honestly is unlikely as we don't have the capacity for inspections. So we either just wave containers through and hope there is no smuggling.

The original poster of this thread thinks presumably by the title that the EU want to commit economic suicide, I don't belive that for a second.

Does the original poster know what a trade deficit is ?

The EU has more to lose if it doesn't agree to trade it really is as simple as that.

Your are the DUMBEST poster I have come across. You need to look at the relative levels not just absolute you clueless ****. The EU exports to the UK ARE A LOWER PERCENTAGE OF THEIR TOTAL EXPORTS THAN THE UK EXPORTS TO THE EU.

It would be tantamount to them losing a finger and us losing a leg - is that clear enough for you. I have never come across someone as dumb as you who thinks trade deals are negotiated in ONE YEAR- YES THATS YOU.

o_Oo_O what has fat people p[rejudice got to do with . Disagree take it up with the "I" news paper ( it was a poll)

I'm sure the workers of the EU will have a certain amount of sympathy for the workers of the UK.

Yes.

They still make the car and send it over in a ship. Why should it cost more?

Because certain components are transferred up to four times between factories in the EU and UK before they are fitted to a car, if these are subject to Tariffs each time they are transferred to UK this would add a considerable cost to a vehicle in this Country .

And that's not good for BMW as we have other options like the more superior Lexus. Less choice but we knew it would not be a walk in the park
