Can anyone tell me what this bit circled in red is called? Gas Meter leak

Indeed, only you can decide OP. (post overlap with Danfre)

I don't mind a pizz take. Being beaten to a pulp by the crew because their kit went walkies is another matter. Plus this firm is a massive chunk of my annual turnover

forgot to lock one of the access points to the build.
I did that once but the job was 10 miles away from home so I set off to lock up - got halfway there (in the company van ) Tyre blew out. Spare was OK, jacked the van up, got 3 wheel nuts off, the fourth rounded off:eek:. Stillsons wouldn't shift it - so I ended up cutting it off with a sharp cold chisel and club hammer. What's the chances of a plumber having a sharp cold chisel ?;)

Dan I am well aware of what needs to be checked at the meter on a install. My point was that the meter is external and could have been tampered with.

On the plus side he did actually do either a TT or gas rating.......

I'd take the discount and ask Gas Safe for the inspection as advised above. Then chill and enjoy your new boiler (y)

Hi and thank you in advance, we had a new boiler installed Thursday and discovered we had a leak on the gas meter Sunday - meter was hissing and smelled strongly of gas - turns out the thing circled in red is missing a bung or cap - can anyone tell me what the thing is called please? Rang emergency gas leak number (as advised by the Central Heating Installers) who came out and sorted it however the Central Heating Installation boss man who did eventually come out, whilst shocked it had been left open did not think it was as big a deal as we do. Luckily the meter is on the outside of our house. They are accredited installers of Worcester Bosch and obviously Gas Safe, he was saying we don;t know if his fitter had had a bad day etc and other ridiculous excuses rather than just saying hands up it is a cock up. Not sure how serious a breach this actually is, the man from Gas emergency service couldn;t believe it had been left off. We know humans make errors etc but it was the Company's lack of customer care which has really irritated as they initially said it was not them at fault and did not take us seriously, just wondering how big an error this is and if we should take the matter further, the boss man did say about knocking some off the bill- as if this would help, we were happy to pay for a decent job so getting somthing knocked off really doesn;t sway us to not complain Thanks for any advice.

OMG that is soooo dangerous. Lucky escape for you.

To be honest with you it was after having countless such incompetent work done by 'professionals' that I resorted to DIY. Oh the stories I could tell you!

Now I DIY everything (including gas). btw DIY gas work is legal but you're not allowed to give gas advice on this forum.

Some one is trying to be a gas engineer by the sound of things ,,,, we know it’s hard stacking shelves and at the same time being a keyboard warrior , but you can only do one or the other, honestly not everything you read on google is fact

abuse removed
I'd just like to thank the mods for their sterling work on this forum and for removing that abuse. people are quick to criticise but they rarely thank the mods for the excellent work they do.

It's a tough mob in here and policing it isn't easy.. Here's a thumbs up for the mods (y). Thanks for keeping this forum great.

Its not like it would make your house insurance invalid.
I think you've got the wrong end of the stick. This was caused by a professional.

OP is very lucky to be alive quite frankly.
