I’d be pleased to see a load of Welsh Lamb in the shops here. Make a nice change from Chicken!!

I had half a leg of Welsh lamb last week -came from Aldi. Really tasty and reasonable.

I quite like visiting Aldi or Lidl, they have interesting European food thats a bit different and they seem more honest supermarkets -mostly the price is the price unlike the big supermarkets that have constant 'deals'.

I don't like animals being subjected to unnecessary suffering.

I find I cant agree with breeding pheasants, then employing beaters to make them fly just for people to shoot them for sport.

What steps do you take to ensure that you never eat any which has had a long and/or stressful journey to the slaughterhouse? Or has not been held in unnatural conditions there?

I agree with all those points, I am as guilty as the next person for not doing due diligence.

However, the point you make is whataboutery.

I said very clearly I disagree with killing or injuring for fun. Bird shooting is primarily a sport first and foremost, ie for fun.

To say they are killed to be eaten is disingenuous, that is not the primary reason.

If they get hit and fall to the ground, still alive, they may be then retrieved by a dog

If you think it is acceptable to inflict suffering on another animal just for your own enjoyment that is your choice, but not mine.

No, I am very against animals being shot or generally hurt in the name of some sort of perverted pretext of "sport" but without wishing to resort to "you don't understand country ways" I would counter with the majority of beats are attended by experienced guns, sure economics dictates that they need to have some daft city types paying ludicrous prices to shore up the finance (just breath this, the "country" folk almost universally despise the "city" idiots)

But it is a sport, a leisure activity, its done for fun.

Pheasants dont need to be released to be shot.

Clay pigeon shooting is also a sport.

I do agree its nor cruel in the way that fox hunting is and I also appreciate there is a big grey area on animal welfare, given the terrible conditions in intensive farming, esp chickens.

That 'price is the price' may well be a bit higher in the future though

Sadly Lidl bowed to pressure and stopped selling meats such as Kangaroo, Ostrich, Bison etc...
(Apparently it's not ok to eat Skippy or 'fast' food etc!)

But if you're after real choice...
(although not many scandinavian 'delicacies')
