Morbid obese people

"We also asked Mr Johnson whether his adviser Will Walden, who works for a lobbying company that represents Coca-Cola, was involved in the new sugar tax policy.

..and Coca-Cola, who make and sell Kia-Ora, No Added sugar to dilute, recently stopped making it for some odd reason, only in the UK.

On a totally unrelated issue, is it possible that multi-billion international corporations, with vast amounts of profit, are capable of influencing politicians in any way?

Absolutely, the difficulty getting Brexit through Parliament highlights that perfectly.

Absolutely, the lunatic scheme to resign from the EU without a deal highlights that perfectly.

Oh please really, no one is forcing you to shove pies down your trap or tip beer down your throat.

I studied this topic for years at uni, a whole module on challenging obesity, one on human nutrition, reviewed research on role of advertising and rates of obesity.

There is a very clear link between advertising and obesity. Advertising is a very powerful tool, it's much more than just suggesting somebody buys a pie.

Almost everything you buy and consume is due to marketing and advertising, from your smart phone and credit card to your hammer drill and dinner

But it's easier to blame weak willed fatties, and better for the economy too.

see other thread!
yes, it's a burden, but the government are responsible for failing to control the food and drinks industry.

Not just our government. Look at the English speaking world. Don't get many fat Eastern Europeans or Asians in their own country's

Yep, food marketing was invented in the West, then exported.

There's a graph that plots the growth of fast food restaurants in Singapore against cases of T2 diabetes from about 1980 and 2000 - it makes a perfect line upwards. Fast food is not just providing a service, it uses marketing to create demand, then serves highly addictive foods.

Probably true of many people, but certainly not me. I switch off mentally during TV ads., I don't read ads., in papers, leaflets through the door go straight in the recycling and door to doors sales never get past my gate. All incoming calls unless from known phone numbers are automatically blocked by my phone system.

If I need something, I do my own research, then research the best price once I have decided what make / model I want.

It isnt just about marketing, the food industry deliberately make food designed to encourage people to eat too much and repeat buy.

The in thing now is multibuys: 6 packets of crisps for £1.

Poundshops often only sell multi packs of chocolate bars, biscuits etc etc

Some retailers do upselling, so when you get to the counter, the assitant offers you a chocolate bar for £1.

Pizza takeaways: they always have constant deals on.......

'Mealdeals'

Supermarkets: end of aisle promotiond, usually paid for by the manufacturer.

Supermarkets: multibuys: get 2 for £4

Of course Coca Cola contains Phosphoric acid for flavour and therefore requires a ton of sugar to stop your teeth immediately dissolving (no problem, let consumers suffer slow decay from the sugar)...
and Phosphoric acid also happens to be the primary constituent of Kamco FX2 the leading pipe and boiler descaler used by plumbing and heating installers.

Agree but and there's the but when ive felt a bit overweight in the past and as soon as my jeans or whatever felt tight i was straight in the gym or out running cycling, and all the crap food would be slung out.
I dont agree junk food is cheaper, when i was skint for a while i lived off home made quiche and salads, roast chicken thighs (much cheaper than breast) etc. Kept me fit and ate well. Dont get me wrong i still can do a whole bar of Dairy Milk and i mean large one from time to time.
How can you go from oh i feel a bit overweight to oh fck it i need a bonnet stay to hold my gut up, let alone see my own tackle. :(
