Nest Camera Outdoor - Max Height for exterior spurred socket with FCU

Greetings all,

I've just temporarily installed a nest Outdoor Camera and fed the 25ft of cable through the windows until next week. I then intend to fit an external socket and take the power from that via the 3 pin plug.

My idea is to do the following:

1. Convert the unused phone socket next to a upstairs bedroom double socket to an FCU.
2. Spur from the adjacent socket to the FCU.
3. Back to back spur from the FCU to an external weatherproof RCD protected socket.
4. Run the supplied outdoor cable from the camera along the wall to the exterior socket.

My question is are they any issue with having an exterior socket mounted so high on the exterior wall and out of reach at between 2-3 metres above ground level? It will have a latched RCD and can obviously be isolated internally from the FCU. I will not need regular access as the camera will stay plugged in at all times. I can't see an issue with this myself but just wanted some thoughts from those in the know with regards to regulations.

I may even run an extension kit down the wall from this socket for use with the lawnmower etc.

It would be silly to have an RCD out of reach.

Use an RCD FCU (if circuit not already on an RCD) then you only need a connector for the camera cable.

If the camera plug is a power supply, then obviously the connector will have to be a socket?

Thanks for the reply. Pretty sure both rings are already RCD protected at the Consumer Unit. It was just a precaution as the difference in price is negligible.

The camera cable has a three pin plug.

I just wanted to make sure there are no issues placing a socket 3 metres up an outside wall.

Yes but is it an ordinary plug or a wall-wart with power supply?
If it is an ordinary plug then cutting off the plug and just fitting a connector would be better.

There are no issues with a socket but an RCD out of reach would be, as I said, silly - an unnecessary one sillier.

I don't think there is anything to stop me cutting off the plug and re-terminating a permanent connection.
