letter from Boris Johnson to Donald Tusk

Where did you hallucinate that the leaders of the eu were totally ignorant to what are now basic customs procedures.

I suspect EU leaders are pretty knowledgeable on customs procedures.

Yes it may be true they may be basic customs procedures, but they do not create a hard border.

27 nations wont agree to the risk of non regulated goods in.

You wouldn't allow it if it was the other way around.

To be fair, in a regulated market, we've imported an awful lot of horses pretending to be cows from Ireland, remember that?

You wouldnt buy an iphone and then tell apple you expect it to run android apps

You're right, I wouldn't buy an iPhone, I just got a Huawei.

Please try and appreciate; a leaky border ends the reason for a single market.

It's 'leaky' now, I doubt it would be anymore 'leaky' if it went digital, I suspect it would be even less leaky.

In any case, Brexiteees have faught their case on 'taking back control of our borders'.

And yet you are arguing for an open border.

I'm not arguing for an open border, I'm arguing for a soft border with digital and trusted trader status for exports from the republic, sure, people who are not entitled too will fly into the republic and take advantage of certain weaknesses to gain entry to the uk, it's not like it doesn't happen already is it?

Actually the backstop is a better deal than any other country has been offered.
Apart from Greenland, we're the only country to have the audacity to leave, so what on earth are you on about?
Oh, sorry, Catalan wanted to leave so they arrested the leaders and put them in prison. Funny, not much on the news about that lately is there?

that may change in late October

Have a think about this:

The EU can sit it out, wait for no deal, then insist on the UK adopt 3rd country status rules.
After a few days when the ports totally clog, the UK will be off to Brussels.

Brexiteers need to realise, no deal is not the finish post -the UK will have 0 trade deals -it will have to spend years building them all back up.

The EU can't accept it.

It already exists. Switzerland.

Yes, Dominic Raab and Owen Paterson tried the Swiss border argument.

The Swiss border is often held up as an example of what could be achieved in Ireland, but here too there is physical infrastructure at all the main crossings - it is a hard border.

According to information from the International Road Transport Union (IRU), the average waiting time for lorries carrying goods ranges from 20 minutes to more than two hours if full inspections have to be carried out

I wont lie to you Notch, if it gets to that stage, I reckon Brussels will be getting on the Eurostar to London.

Yes, we know that, apart from the years on trade deals, trade barriers are falling, the EU needs to be protectionist, us less so.

It already exists. Switzerland.

Great news! Lower thinks there is a solution and he thinks it is working on the Swiss border.

Tell us, Lower, how you think trade works between EU and CH.

Do you think Switzerland insisted on no-deal? Or do you think it spent years building a framework of agreements?

It worked very well until the eu tried to suck Switzerland further into financial and legal integration, the Swiss wanted none of it and the eu got nasty, like they did with the Catalonians, whats new?

Filly thinks he is Lower

but fails to answer the questions.

Actually, I did answer exactly what you asked of Lower, I didn't answer the part you added on a later edit, after all, I'm not psychic am I? Perhaps I could endeavour to do it now.

Do you think Switzerland insisted on no-deal? Or do you think it spent years building a framework of agreements?

Of course they didn't insist on a no deal, they were never in the eu, but we've never 'insisted' on a no deal either have we?
Yes, they did spend years building a framework of agreements, and then the eu wanted a bit more, then a bit more, then closer integration, and the Swiss, who decide most major choices by referendum, fought back, and the eu didn't like it did they? they started to get a bit nasty didn't they? Check it out John, Google is your friend. (Possibly not in this case).

Actually, I did answer exactly what you asked of Lower,

no, you didn't answer "Tell us, Lower, how you think trade works between EU and CH." Lower seems to think it is open borders and that Buffoon's imaginary process would be the same as the one that Lower thinks exists for Switzerland.

Do you think that the Brexers want a deal like Switzerland has?

Lets calm down John and look at this. Your link suggests some lorries could be held up for 2 hours for full checks. Make no mistake, That could mean 1 in a 1000, to suggest other lorries take 20 mins is a fallacy, they're waved through. If you take the average delay, bearing in mind (don't know if this is still fact but it was some years back) there would be a backlog after the weekend because 10 years ago the eu wouldn't let lorries transit at weekends.)
Talk of lorry drivers pulling into Dover, never to see their children again, well, it's a bit silly really isn't it?
