HS2 is worthless, why oh why do consqueutive governments not invest in somewhere north of Birmingham, not all of us want to go near the cesspit called the SE, but to earn money we're forced to. Madness. Let us move about, we might start contributing and stop the southern moans, we're sick to the back teeth of it.

All the money is concentrated in finance in London and land / property ownership.
House prices are highest in the commuter belt, IE around the train stations of kent and surrey.

The industrial North has only seen a fragile recovery since Thatcher made us a service econony. This country needs high investment in education, infrastructure and technology to revitalise the traditional industrial regions.

I was hearing about people from Sunderland -they were saying Nissan is a massive employer -apparently everybody knows someone that works at Nissan or satellite businesses -if they leave it would cause huge damage there.

I suspect that any form of dare I say the B word will increase money flowing to London and even less to the regions.

And in that respect (financial services) she was right, however with no succession plan for the inevitable deindustrialiation of the North, well that was more than dumb.

Not a fraction of the loss caused by the coal industry.Times change.

The only good daytime DJ left is Ken Bruce. I hope they don't get rid of him too, for being too old and male.
So Ken has gone; Sob!

Steve Wright has gone, almost - Thank F***. I can't stand the *****!

As they are getting rid of old DJ's why is Tony Blackburn still there? In the '70's he represented everything that was wrong with BBC popular music, especially the R1 playlist which didn't represent my musical choice. The saving grace was John Peel and Jonnie Walker.

What sort of music did Tony Blackburn play?

Seems to be that you have to be young and gay to get a job presenting on radio 2 these days. All the new ones are. Scott mills, Owain, Ritchie the traffic presenter, Rylan…

Ken Bruce and Steve Wright were great as background chat/ music driving or doing something else, the new lot have a bland supermarket style. Sarah Cox comes across as a slightly patronising local rafio presenter. The old guard were replaced for fear of losing the younger listeners i.e. under 50, and I suspect to appeal to more women and minorities. That worked well didn't it.

Blup

Isn't that the point of the radio, though - something going on in the background as you work?
I liked Wrighty in the afternoon during his 1980s heyday but when Chris Evans took over the Breakfast Show i had to switch off his incessant drivel to hear myself think. Bloody windsock, he is.
Now i prefer Classic FM as it burbles merrily away without becoming too distracting...and, joy of joys, they got to the end of the top 300 list this Easter without that damn Lark Ascending at the top of the chart: Rachmaninov Rulez, ok!

I tried converting to being bent after hearing all the hype.
It's not what its all cracked up to be.

For much of it, although it would be difficult to listen to Vine as background, he tends to polarise issues like a good tabloid headline writer.

I never liked Ken Bruce back in the day, he came across as a Wogan sound alike. But more recently doing a local run at the time popmaster came on was something to look forward to.

Blup
