If an MP lost their seat, have they resigned or been sacked ? Just wondering what they do now with no job, I know some have other jobs they can fall back on (if they kept up to speed), but do they get any benefits, is the pension equated to time served, and do they have to be 55 plus to get it?

I dont know.

I suppose its something we dont think about -to us its just politics, to them its actually their day to day job with a salary.

Don’t they get a parachute payment similar to football clubs that are relegated to a lower division?

Yes they do; and a pension based on one 5 year term is better than many low wage earners will get after 30 years.

I thought some of them went on to become consultants and speakers etc, a well known one i am aware of went on to be employed by one of my old clients and was paid a ridiculous sum of money to host 'fireside talks' etc, i got the impression it was all pre arranged as an assurance plan when said person lost his position as an MP. I think alot of them try to arrange as much as possible when they have influence or still can.

I guess they're not tight for money anyway, with all those 'expenses' payments tucked in the bank.... :sneaky:

Can you see Corbyn as an after dinner speaker

He's undecided as to whether and when to go. Unsurprisingly;)

Denial.

I bet the Corbynistas still believe in their socialist ideology as the future for Labour.
They will try and promote somebody in the image of Corbyn, like Rebecca Long Bailey or Laura Pidcock.......which will keep Labour in the wilderness

They never learn: socialism is not mainstrean, fight from the centre ground and compromise on what can be done.

At least Tom Watson had the forefight to bail out a few weeks ago,

Agreed, If Kier Starmer gets the position, they become a viable alternative, another momentum type and they'll be out in the cold for generations.

I do not understand why non-labour supporters get so agitated about this.

If the Labour party - which IS/WAS socialist - go more to the left because those in charge decide that and never get elected then so be it.

A party could promote the policies of Stalin or Hitler if it wanted to but it would presumably never get elected so it doesn't matter.
Saying you want the labour party to be in the centre is pointless. You have the Liberals for that.

Perhaps you would like three parties all in the centre and promoting the same policies.

Apart from brexit, Johnson is sort of promising socialist policies by undoing what the Conservatives have done in the last nine years. There are people complaining that they are no longer conservative enough.

Whether he keeps to his promises, of course, is another matter.
